Contact Methods -- Personal contact is of course best. If you can meet with your Senator or Rep and hand them the Declaration personally, that would be ideal. If you have any personal connection, no matter how remote, now's the time to use it. A Sample meeting request and Talking Points are available to help you. Please contact us if you want to discuss talking points in advance of any meeting. -- Snail mail with a personal note would be next best. But DO NOT snail mail to their DC offices. US mail is delayed and radiated before it reaches Members. Find a local office to mail the Declaration to. -- Faxing to them would be the next best. Either local or DC office should do, but the DC staff is usually more important to the boss. You can use TPC Faxing to fax for free. -- Hand delivery by a messager is another option. Send a telegram or use the the Extra Impact option at Congress.org. For example, this message was hand-delivered to Capital Hill. -- Finally, emailing is good too. You can just email the URL or post the text in your email. You should avoid using email attachments as they can contain viruses and are rarely opened. You can use our Action Alert page to send an email to both Senators and your Rep at the same. However you convey your message, try to follow up with an office visit or phone call to ask for a response. See the FAQ section for talking points. AND AFTER YOU'VE DONE YOUR OWN REPS AND SENATORS -- DO AS MANY OTHERS AS YOU CAN. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY ALL GOT MULTIPLE REQUESTS TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT !! ** Senators are particularly vital. As you may recall from the opening scene of the Michael Moore movie Fahrenheit 9-11, the Congressional Black Caucus took a noble but futile stand against the stolen election of 2000 by objecting to the unlawful Florida electors on January 6th, 2001. Their effort failed for the lack of the required support from a single US Senator. In fact, the next day on Meet the Press 2 Dem Senators were asked why -- their response (in unison) -- "No one asked us." Those 2 Senators were Joe Biden and John Kerry. They've made it clear: WE HAVE TO ASK THEM -- SO LET'S DO IT! |
The Declaration The main "vehicle" for our effort is the Declaration of Intent document. It is a simple statement we are demanding our elected officials to "endorse" (figuratively if not literally). All you need to do is convey the Declaration to an elected official, then follow up to get an answer. That's all there is to it. Use the Print Version (HTML or PDF) of the Declaration to convey to a Rep or Senator when asking that they not fail to do their sworn duty. Use the Flyer Version (HTML or PDF) of the Declaration to hand out to members, gatherings, or strangers on the street. It includes the URL for this site and an email contact. Use our CapWiz page to find contact infomation. |
